Country that
looks like
our country
“Aldershot are The band
North of Nashville.”
—Duncan Coutts, Our Lady Peace
Nick Baha on lead
“I was born and raised in a Trinidadian-Italian household in the suburbs. Country music was as foreign to me as much as I was foreign to it. But when I caught it on the radio in rural Ontario, I fell in love with the storytelling. Started writing songs in high school, taught myself guitar, and decided I wanted to trade my toque for a ten gallon hat. I believe my outsider attitude brings a new feel to the genre.”
Will Li on guitar
“Growing up in a Chinese home, there was a strict expectation for me to excel at music. But not country music. I studied music theory and learned how to do everything right. But when I heard country, I loved how breaking the rules sounded so right. Nick and I met in college and bonded over our love of country and knew what we had to do. We want to bring Nashville sound to Canada and vice versa. ”
DEBUT EP
Embracing the fact they’re new to the game, Aldershot’s debut EP First Rodeo is a celebration of being young and naive. It’s a handfull of tunes that run through radio-friendly regrets to twangy tunes of teenage dreams. There’s a honky-tonk anthem for Friday night out and a Nashville ballad worthy of the Opery. Produced by Duncan Coutts of Our Lady Peace & Byron Wong of Zero11Zero, this EP breaks out of the gate with energy and confidence.
